Answering Quora Questions on Skin Conditions
Eyes
What caused a dark spot on the iris of my eye?
Believe it or not it could be an eye freckle (aka iris freckle) due to long time sun exposure.
Vision scientist have found according to the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) that eye freckles are common. This affects light colored eyes usually in the lower outer quadrant that is less protected.
Lips
Why is the area around my lips dark, almost black, especially my upper lip?
Other causes:
- Side effects from medications
- Sun
- Trauma to your skin
- Vitamin deficiencies (B12 & D)
- Smoking
What causes someone to have pouty lips? Why do my mother and father have pouty lips but me and my siblings don’t?
Since you mention your mother and father having a full and very thick upper lip I assume it was inherited. Like everything else in your being it’s in your genes. And these things can skip generations.
Because both parents have pouty lips it may have canceled out you and your siblings so to speak. There is a thing about a gene being dominant.
Fingernails
What does it really mean when you have a dark line of your fingernails?
I’m a half Asian girl but one of my eyes is a small eyelid and other is a puffy triple eyelid. Is it still Asian Fishing if I glue or use tape to make my puffy eyelid evener?

Eczema
A skin condition called melasma can appear as brown or grayish-brown patches. On the upper lip this is known as melasma mustache. Above all it often affects women of child bearing ages. In addition there is another skin condition called Angiokeratoma of Fordyce.
These are forms of hyperpigmentation. You could visit your dermatologist for an accurate diagnosis.
For those who are not familiar with this term; Asian fishing is using makeup to look East-Asian. This especially draws attention to slanted or monolid eyes. I would say no since you are half Asian and you do have the purpose to even the other out.
A triple eyelid is when your upper shows a double fold versus one. Its cause could be more skin, aging has created less fat or your muscles there are weak.
Sun Exposure
A thin black line vertically under the nail is called a splinter hemorrhage. As a thicker dark line going horizontally are known as Beau’s lines. Most importantly this could be a sign of subungual melanoma.
However the shaded line could be caused by many other health conditions. It’s a good idea to contact your dermatologist for a diagnosis.
Will getting a lip ring make my eczema worse? I only have dermatitis on my lips.
Cherry Angiomas
Wrapping it up
What is causing these cherry angiomas, little red blood like dots on people’s skin? Bromide toxins? How to get rid of them naturally if possible?
The cause for these common benign growths is mainly unknown. However there seems to be a link to genetics. And age as they often appear in adults over 30 years old. As well as occurring during pregnancy.
I have a couple myself. Some studies suggest bromide as a chemical cause. This is found in many everyday sources like pasta, bakery and medications.
You may try a home remedy to remove but there has been no evidence backing the effectiveness. Tea tree oil, lavender and apple cider vinegar have all been suggested.

Face
What is the best way to get glow back into your skin?
Yes. Your skin there is already sensitive and you could make it more irritated. Then there is the possibility of adding nickel jewelry and having a reaction to this.
And if this causes you to lick your lip more your saliva actually adds more irritation. So to avoid all of these issues, just don’t get a lip piercing.

It doesn’t matter how long you’ve had your natural color it will change once the sun hits it. This is your skins protective mechanism.
Answering Quora Questions on Treatment Products
There is no one good answer, except as I say be good to your skin. To sum it up this includes a healthy diet, enough sleep and exercise, along with hydrating your skin inside and outside.
Moreover, avoiding harsh produces and devices. Likewise, going for a professional facial which also relieves stress.
Can I use oil on my face? If yes, which is the most beneficial?
Yes, this is a common Ayurveda method. There are a number of beauty companies that offer oils for your face. I have become an affiliate of a few Ayurveda lines.
It depends on what you are trying to achieve. Jojoba oil contains no irritating scent and is often used as carrier oil. Oiling can bring back moisture to skin and hair.
Coconut oil is also good to hydrate skin. It has a sweet scent and lots of fatty acids. Great chose for winter season according to Ayurveda.
Underarms
How do I get lighter underarms naturally? Does anyone recommend any tested and proven remedies?
Since this is a delicate area prone to irritation that could cause hyperpigmentation, do you know what is causing this first of all? You may be able to improve this area by changing products or the way you shave there.
As for home remedies nothing has really been tested for the underarm area. Known ingredients that lighten skin are lemon and turmeric. But these can cause irritation and make things worse. So always do a patch test first.
Lemon-first cut a couple thick slices of the lemon. Then rub a slice on each underarm. This can be rinsed off after 10 minutes using cool water. Dry your skin and apply a moisturizer.
Turmeric-In your small bowl you want to form a paste. Take 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice adding enough turmeric to it. This paste should be spread evenly to your armpits. After thirty minutes the paste can be washed off.
These remedies may take some time to see results.
Minor Burns

Why do you have to run lukewarm water on a minor burn for 10 minutes or so? How does that affect the skin and healing process?
According to the National Library of Medicine running cool/lukewarm (not cold) water over the burn for 20 minutes delays the progression of the burn. This also increases your skin tissue survival. As a result this encourages the healing process.

Does Retin-A expire?
Yes. Retin-A does expire. If you were given a prescription you should be aware of the date. The date should be found on your package.
If you can’t find this there may be other signs it has gone bad. Say change in color or the produce smells different. Taking a chance by using Retin-A after its expiration date may cause irritation to your skin besides wondering about its effectiveness.
Does titanium dioxide in sunscreen cause wrinkles?
No. It has been proven that not using protection from UV rays can cause wrinkles. Wrinkles can show up prematurely with long sun exposure among other skin issues.
I’m an indoor person and do I want to apply sun cream at home also and I’m living in normal climate without using AC too?
It has been discovered that it is possible to be exposed to UV rays while indoors. This is through glass not offering protection. Most importantly it is wise to wear sunscreen if you are mainly at a window at home or in the office. Above all to avoid sun damage as well as cancer.
We have applied a UV protective film to our homes windows. This also keeps the inside at a cooler temperature. But in the end it is always your chose whether to apply your sunscreen or not.
